Roll Deep
Roll Deep

Roll Deep is a participatory creative technology project exploring how storytelling, motion capture and co-design can strengthen belonging within public space. Led by UCL Arts & Sciences in partnership with Skate Cabal, the project works with roller skaters who regularly use Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP) to create new forms of representation authored by the skating community itself.
The project responds to ongoing tensions around the use of shared public space by reframing roller skating as a cultural practice that contributes to the identity, vitality and social life of the park. Through a series of collaborative workshops, skaters are shaping the project's direction and creative outputs, ensuring their experiences and perspectives remain central throughout the process.
Participants are taking part in story-development sessions, motion-capture workshops and collaborative editing activities, using creative technologies to translate movement, memory and community experience into digital artworks. The project is delivered in collaboration with Alexander Whitley Dance Company, CommonGround Architecture & Design, and the Creative Experiences Futures Lab, with stakeholder engagement from organisations including LLDC, V&A East and Sadler's Wells.
